Youths’ socio-economic well-being in Southwest Nigeria: What role can empowerment/poverty reduction programmes play?

Despite several empowerment/poverty reduction programmes in Nigeria, the youths’ plight has worsened with evidence of increased unemployment rate, poverty, and social exclusion. This study examines impact empowerment/ poverty on well-being southwest Nigeria. The adopts quantitative method using questionnaires for data collection. A total 425 copies questionnaire were collected analysed frequency distribution tables cross tabulation. It was found that despite high level awareness (74.6%) various empowerment programmes, only a few (17.2%) have benefitted from them. Among those who benefited, 41.2% what they currently do related to once benefitted. majority respondents, 61.6%, consider resourceful. Based findings, recommends properly implementing ensure need them are beneficiaries, rather than medium political expediency. Also, youth trust fund where youths undergone can always access funds their start-ups needs be established. will promote wealth creation opportunities among sustainability programmes.
